Announcements

Dream Team will be speaking at Glade Creek School on Thursday. 4th , 5th and 6th grade speakers will be leaving at 9:30. Speakers for 3rd, 7th, and 8th, will be leaving at 12;15. Pick up a permission slip from Coach Phillips or Coach Calloway.


William Ragsdale Froelich Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship was established in 2009 by friends and family of Will Froelich to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors from Alleghany County. Froelich, a young man who lived life beautifully, intelligently and passionately, died tragically in an accident at the age of 17 at Roaring Gap, a place he loved dearly. Eligible students must be residents of Alleghany County, be a graduating senior, have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0, demonstrate community involvement and/or employment, demonstrate financial need and evidence a desire to impact the world in a positive manner. Camp Med 2011 Summer Program

Date June 20th – 24th

The Camp Med Summer Program is designed to recruit, educate and prepare high School Students for careers in the health professions. All interested rising 9th – 12th grade students must complete an application. Participation in this program is FREE. If you are interested in a career in any health related field- please see Pam Hall for an application. Space is limited so get your completed applications in early.

Attention seniors:

N.C. Cooperative Leadership Conference, White Lake, NC – This is a five-day program that focuses on leadership, how cooperatives operate and traditional camp activities that is held June 20-24, 2011. Up to 10 rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors will be sponsored. Eligibility requirements include: Be single and a rising junior or senior (must be 15 years old at time of camp) at a public high school in Skyline’s service area, be able to attend the entire leadership conference, be willing to utilize training following participation in the leadership conference, have leadership potential, and previous conference attendees may not reapply for this program in any subsequent year. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline for submission is April 15, 2011 to Mrs. Miller.

You may qualify for the Bob R. McGuire Memorial Scholarship or the North Carolina Child Support Council Scholarship. Deadline for submission is April 15, 2011. See Mrs. Miller for more information.

The North Carolina Society of Accountants Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1970 to provide scholarships for deserving students who indicate a desire to enter the profession of Accounting. The scholarship awards for 2011-2012 school year will be $500 each. Deadline for submission of application is April 15, 2011. See Mrs. Miller for more information.

The State Employees Association of North Carolina’s (SEANC) scholarship is available online at www.seanc.org and must be returned, completed, to the Scholarship Chairman of the district of which the parent is a member. All applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2011. The applicant and/or parent or guardian must be a member of SEANC. See Mrs. Miller for more information.

Additional scholarship opportunities for seniors:

Frank James – SkyLine Scholarship – Applicants must be graduating high school seniors whose parents are current members of SkyLine, and long with their parents, reside full-time in the cooperative’s five-county service area. Applicants must have been accepted to a four- or two- year accredited school and exhibit financial need. Five $1000 scholarships and five $500 scholarships will be awarded this year. The $1000 is renewable for four years and the $500 is renewable for two years. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline for submission to Mrs. Miller is April 15, 2011.

Mount Rogers Area Christmas Tree Growers Association – Accepting applications from 2011 graduates of area high schools for their two $750 scholarships. See Mrs. Miller in guidance for an application. Deadline for submission is April 15, 2011.

NC Strawberry Association Scholarship – This scholarship is open to high school seniors or current college students applying, accepted to, or currently enrolled in a land grant university who are interested in or having declared a major in a program of study directly related to the strawberry industry. The scholarship award for 2011 is $500. The number of scholarships awarded will be based on funds available and applications received. Deadline to apply is May 1, 2011. The Gallery Collection’s 5th Annual Create-A-Greeting-Card $10,000 Scholarship Contest has officially begun. They are offering students a chance to win $10,000 towards their education plus a $1000 award for their school. Entering the contest is easy. Students must submit a unique photo, piece of artwork, or computer graphic for the front of a greeting card. The student with the best design will win a $10,000 scholarship and have his/her design made into an actual card to be sold in their line. Entries accepted March 17, 2011 – January 14, 2012.
