Dr. Cox has announced that any student that attends SAT Test Prep for at least 10 contact hours and takes the SAT Test will be reimbursed the cost of the Test Registration (approx. $47.00). So- we are offering FREE Tutoring and the cost of the test - FREE- plus you get the higher Test Scores!!!!
You must attend at least 10 hours but can do more and you may select one subject or both to be tutored. Make arrangements now and block out the days to equal at least 10 hours of tutoring to take advantage of Dr. Cox’s offer for reimbursement. Any hours attended for previous SAT Test Prep will count toward the total of 10 contact hours.

The community and our school swim team need your vote every day during the month of October.

Alleghany Wellness Center in Sparta, North Carolina, is applying for a Pepsi Refresh grant to help replace the bubble roof over the swimming pool, and we need your help. If our project receives the most votes, we will be awarded $50,000. Here’s what to do:

3. When our project appears, click “vote for this idea”
4. You will be prompted to create an account. Follow the instructions to do that. You'll need to remember your username and password for future voting.

Girls Basketball open gym tonight has been cancelled the next open gym will be tomorrow after school from 3:15-4:30 in the new gym.
The Volleyball Team will be having an Alumni Volleyball tournament Oct. 16th at 3:00 for Breast Cancer Awareness. If you played volleyball from 1985-2005, please sign up before Oct. 12th. See Debbie Weaver.
The Marching Band Boosters would like to get some BETA Club volunteers to help out at the "sweet tooth" during the Homecoming Football game on Oct. 8. They sell doughnuts, cotton candy, cold drinks and coffee. There will be a sign up sheet in Mrs. Hash's room, today.

This cost includes a meal ticket. Juniors can run for District Offices and there is a Group and Single Talent Competition (5 and 4 minute time limits) Preregistration is REQUIRED!

Eligibility is limited exclusively to men and women entering their senior year of high school in the 2010-2011 academic year who have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport. Wendy's High School Heisman - This award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. Eligibility is limited exclusively to men and women entering their senior year of high school in the 2010-2011 academic year who have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport. Any eligible student can register and begin the application process at www.wendysheisman.com. Applications must be completed by October 3rd.
Applications are being accepted for the North Carolina's Senate Youth Program. To apply for the Senate Youth Program, a student must be a junior or senior in high school who is currently serving in an elected or appointed capacity in student government or a related organization. Completed applications must be submitted to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh on or before the October 9, 2010 deadline. See Mrs. Miller for more information.
Nuestra Juventud - Student of the Month Program - Univision 40's Scholarship Program recognizes the academic achievements and leadership qualities among Hispanic High School Seniors in the WUVC-Univision 40 viewing area. Seniors - If your veteran parent was a resident of North Carolina when he/she entered military service or if you are a lifelong resident of North Carolina, you may be eligible for a scholarship from the state of North Carolina to attend one of the universities, community colleges or technical institutes within the state of North Carolina. October 20th is the Beta District Convention at John A. Walker Center in North Wilkesboro. Beta Club members going must pay $15.00 and have their permission forms by Thursday, Sept 30th noon. This cost includes a meal ticket. Juniors can run for District Offices and there is a Group and Single Talent Competition (5 and 4 minute time limits) Preregistration is REQUIRED!

Juniors - Deadline for registration for the SAT on November 6, 2010, at AHS is October 8, 2010. If you are planning on attending a four-year university, it is crucial that you take the SAT this year.
The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS) will select the next cohort of 1,000 students in the 2010-2011 academic year as Gates Millennium Scholars. This renewable, need-based scholarship provides financial support throughout a Gates Scholar's undergraduate career and into graduate school for those who choose to study in one of the seven graduate disciplines: computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. See Mrs. Miller for eligibility criteria and more information.
To be eligible, students must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American.
