Any senior who would like to apply for the N.C. Teaching Fellows Scholarship needs to get an application from Mrs. Miller in guidance. The application deadline is Friday, October 15, 2010.

US Senator Kay R. Hagan’s office is hosting an Academy Day at the North Carolina National Guard Armory in Morrisville, NC on Saturday, September 25th from 10:00am-1:00pm. Attending will be representatives and current midshipman and cadets from each service academy, as well as representatives from Senator Hagan’s office to explain our nomination process.

Juniors - Deadline for registration for the SAT on November 6, 2010, at AHS is October 8, 2010. If you are planning on attending a four-year university, it is crucial that you take the SAT this year.

Seniors - Deadline for registration for the SAT in October has been extended to September 24, 2010. If you have not taken the SAT for the first time and are planning on attending a four-year university, it is imperative that you take it in October! November is too late!

Jayne Phipps-Boger will be conducting a Financial Aid Workshop on Tues Sept 28 at 6:00 pm for students who intend on entering college classes in Spring 2011. Any student and family who wishes to have assistance filling out the financial aid forms on line need to call and make an appointment at 372- 5061 ext 231. They may leave a message with their name and a phone number if I am not available.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program (GMS) will select the next cohort of 1,000 students in the 2010-2011 academic year as Gates Millennium Scholars. This renewable, need-based scholarship provides financial support throughout a Gates Scholar's undergraduate career and into graduate school for those who choose to study in one of the seven graduate disciplines: computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. Benedict College will host its Fall Open House Program on Saturday, October 16, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. See Mrs. Miller for more information or to sign up.

Several undergraduate scholarships are available if you are considering attending NC State. Many fall in the realm of education. See Mrs. Miller for more information.

Wendy's High School Heisman - This award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. Eligibility is limited exclusively to men and women entering their senior year of high school in the 2010-2011 academic year who have at least a "B" grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport. Any eligible student can register and begin the application process at www.wendysheisman.com. Applications must be completed by October 3rd.
