There will be a spring sports meeting for the parents March 2nd at 7:00pm in the AHS cafeteria.
There will be a Hispanic heritage volunteer opportunity offered in April and May. Service hours will be awarded to any students interested in the culture of Cuba and Spain. Students who are interested can meet in Mrs. Vestal's room during break today.
February time sheets for Internship/Apprenticeship students will be due to Mrs. Maines today.
Students interested in playing in the student vs. Faculty basketball game can sign up in the lobby today after school.

The blood drive is on Monday. Today is the last day to sign up. If you're at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and in general good health you may donate. All those who are donating blood on Monday, please be sure to bring your photo ID, eat healthy and drink plenty of fluids this weekend and Monday morning. All health Promotion club members see Mrs. Tucker sometime today.
The Youth Business Plan Competition is an opportunity for High School Seniors in Alleghany to gain knowledge of entrepreneurship. See Mrs. Clifton for more details.

There will be a mandatory envirothon meeting today. Students that plan to attend competition in April MUST attend the meeting.

Reminder: Teachers remember you have NCWISE training at the beginning of each conference period in the library. 3rd period training will begin at 11:45am.

Freshman Trip to ASU Planned - March 26th
AHS and Gear Up are planning a Freshman Trip on March 26th to Boone to tour Appalachian State University. Buses will leave promptly at 8:00am. Students who go will be counted present for the day. We will spend the day at the college touring a dorm, the new football stadium, the science department, the gymnasium, and eating lunch in the new dining facility on campus. Following our ASU visit, we are going to Regal Cinemas for a 4:00 matinee followed by supper at Cici’s Pizza. We plan to be back at the school parking lot between 8 and 8:30pm. Gear Up is financing transportation and lunch. The cost of the movie and supper is $14.00. Students need to turn in permission forms and $14.00 to Mrs. Ward in the media center by March 18th.

Registration forms for the ACT given here in April must be postmarked by Friday, February 27. Applications packets are available in the Guidance office.
Local Scholarship forms are due in the Guidance Office by Friday, March 6. Remember that most of the applications require your letter, your activities and honors sheet and a teacher reference letter. Please be sure to do the same for each application.

1. Students who plan to attend Wilkes Community College in the fall may apply for scholarships at www.wilkescc.edu. Deadline to apply is March 2, 2009. Scholarship applications for Surry CC are available in the Guidance Office.
